I am Dana Suhaskumar, and I am actively seeking a content writer or senior communications role with a creative services company or corporate office. I have more than five years of writing and editing experience, and working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.

Additionally, I have held several leadership positions both academically and professionally, including as editor-in-chief of The Shorthorn, the nationally recognized student newspaper of The University of Texas at Arlington, in spring 2000. I was previously news editor, reporter, and copy editor there.

Scholarships & Awards

I earned five scholarships while working at The Shorthorn: The Director’s Award, Roger C. Dycus Award, Paul Swenson Award, Dorothy Estes Award, and Jack Butler Memorial Award. I transferred to UTA from Brookhaven College in Farmers Branch, Texas and was the editor of the student newspaper there for one semester. While at Brookhaven, I won first place at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association’s on-site news writing competition in 1998. I also freelanced as a news/features writer for The Fort Worth Star-Telegram for 18 months.

Business Experience

I am currently the senior corporate communications specialist for National Teachers Associates Life Insurance Company, where I lead a team in drafting and editing internal and external written communications. I also recently coordinated one of La Quinta Holding’s largest general manager training programs at its corporate office. From evaluating course topics and training materials to organizing speakers, I handled all aspects of this vital program. I also re-designed some of the print materials for class. Prior to working for La Quinta, I managed talent for about 150-200 employees as Executive Team Leader-Human Resources at the Super Target in Flower Mound, Texas. I also managed the departments of Sales Floor and Grocery at the Denton Super Target, and traveled regionally to train teams at stores that began carrying fresh groceries. With 20 years of supervisory experience, I helped increase sales through effective performance and brand management, earned praise for surpassing the Flower Mound store’s employee opinion survey goal (85% favorable), and received a personal team survey rating of 90% as HR manager there.

Personal Interests

In my personal time, I enjoy taking photographs, watching movies, reading, and creating memories with friends and family.
